Jammu: A deputation of All Jammu and Kashmir Jat Sabha today called on Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma demanding enhancement of compensation to the Jat community who have been told to abandon their houses.
“We have called on the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and he listen, the deputation carefully and assured all possible help from the Government,” said Manjit Singh, former minister, and newly elected president of All Jammu and Kashmir Jat Sabha.
Singh, issuing a statement said that it should be investigated that the Airport Authority of India has de-notified vacant land and selected the piece of land where majority of poor people who were displaced earlier also in 1947 and 1965. Those people are again complelled to leave their land and houses .
“They should be given appropriate land in Jammu Municipal limits, instead of shifting them to Sunjwan. It is injustice with the poor families who have constructed their houses with hard earned money and are told to abandon their houses so that airport can be expanded,” he said.
He said that they should not be settled in Sunjwan on six marla land which is insufficient. Government should give atleast 15 marla land to them in municipal limits, he added, while quoting his meeting with Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
Prominent among those who were the part of deputation include former Minister Choudhary Sukhnandan, MLC Surinder Choudhary, MLC Vikram Randhawa, Municipal Corporator Dwarka Choudhary, Taranjeet Singh Tony and Sardar Dalip Singh Samotra.
