Justifying the decision of government to hold Municipal and Panchayat elections in the State, Shaheen said that this is the only way to strengthen the democratic institutions at grass root level and bring the misguided youth into the national mainstream. This will ensure the development of the State, he added.
Yesterday, JDU state president G M Shaheen alongwith other senior leaders of the party have conducted tours various districts of Jammu region including Samba observes that previous BJP-PDP including NC-Congress coalition governments had miserably failed to provide drinking water, adequate power supply and ration to the general public and also failed to mitigate the sufferings of the people in rural areas of the Jammu region.
He further pointed out that unprecedented power and water crisis in the whole state in general and Jammu province in particular, was result of the failure on the part of previous government. He alleged that the previous coalition partners were finding it difficult to reduce the trust deficit between them due to ideological differences but the controversies, courted by them, also had a negative impact on governance and public delivery.
He added that the PDP-BJP leaders are busy only in delivering sermons and repeating of repeated hallow claims. However, he said the fact remains that developmental activities are almost invisible and no concrete measures are taken to address the issues of livelihood.
He further asked the Central and State governments to give security cover to its candidates participating in ULBs polls keeping in view of their protection and life threats being faced by them after filing nominations for Municipal elections.
