A deputation of parents along with social workers of Akhnoor under the leadership of Atul Sudan State Vice President Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) called on Deputy Chief Education Officer regarding the issue of high admission fees/tuition fees being charged by some private schools violating the order of Fee Fixation Committee.
Meanwhile Deputy CEO and ZEO were not available in the office due to some official meeting with higher authorities and on behalf of them Zonal Planning Officer received the memorandum from the deputation and gave patient hearing to the speakers regarding the issues.
Addressing the present authority Atul Sudan said every year during time of admissions private schools are alleged to charge huge amount of re-admission fees/annual charges and are also alleged to increase tuition fees more than they are authorized to increase. On this many parents organization approached to Honble Court after which a Fee Fixation Committee was formed which issued order of certain guidelines regarding annual fees, tuition fees and other charges. He said that committee took views from both parents association as well as private schools associations after which it was fixed and was accepted by both parties that no private school can charge annual fees more than 6000 per annum and cannot increase tuition fees more than 6% whose tuition fees exceeds Rs 1000 per month. Other than that according to order if any school wants to increase its tuition fees or annual chargers that school can submit application to Fee Fixation Committee. It was also made mandatory that private schools will display the annual charges and tuition fees on notice board and no school can violate the Fee Fixation Committee order if any school found doing so will he dealt accordingly.
Atul Sudan further said that it is grievance of all parents that most of the schools are not following the order of the Fee Fixation Committee and are charging fees more than what was finalized by committee and are also not displaying fees on notice boards. Sudan said parents’ wants that a committee should be immediately formed to check these violations and stern action should be taken against those private schools. He said that extra charged charges from parents on name of development fees/annual charges/admission fees should be refunded back to the parents.
After giving the patient hearing to the delegation Planning officer assured them that department will seriously and surely act on the complaint and will take ever possible action against those violating the order. He also informed the delegation that Deputy CEO has gone to meet Director School education regarding the same issue and strict action will be taken within days.
