JAMMU, Dec 25:
Chandigarh today registered a 15 runs victory over Haryana to lift the title trophy of the 64th edition of the National School Games under-19 boys’ Cricket held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at KCPS ground, here today. In the final, Chandigarh, batting first, made 127 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs a side game, which, in reply, Haryana could not chase and exhausted their quota of overs for 112 runs losing nine wickets. Meanwhile, hosts J&K salvaged some pride when they finished third winning the hardliner played against Uttar Pradesh at University of Jammu (JU) ground this morning. J&K defeated UP by a margin of 14 runs. Batting first, J&K set a low target of 79 runs when whole side bowled out for 78 runs in 13.2 overs. Rishav and Imran contributed highest 17 runs each.
From UP, Gyanendra clinched four wickets. In reply, UP lost all their wickets for 64 runs in 15 overs, courtesy four wickets haul from Ashank.
In the final and valedictory function, Director General (DG) DYSS, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman was chief guest, who presented title trophies and other individual prizes.
Joint Director (Kashmir) DYSS, Bashir Ahmad, Observer from School Games Federation of India (SGFI), Kuldeep Mishra were guest of honour.
In all, 29 teams, comprising of 444 players, from States, UTs and organisations participated in this National event. In total 55 matches played during the tournament at six different venues around the Jammu city.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG thanked the participants for their cooperation and the spirit they have exhibited. He said that technical as well as other officials have also equally done a commendable job in conducting the tournament.
He congratulated Chandigarh, Haryana and J&K for playing well and making it to first, second and third place respectively.
Those present were Chanchal Kour (DYSSO Jammu),. Khursheed Ahmad Tariq (DYSSO Baramulla), Noor-ul-Haq (DYSSO Anantnag), Sukhdev Singh (DYSSO Ramban) and Balbir Singh (DYSSO Budgam). A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students of MIER and Government Higher Secondary School, Nawabad.
