There was still no trace of the student who was buried under an avalanche along with two others on February 15 in Bandipora district of north Kashmir. Massive rescue operation by different agencies, including locals, police, army

and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) personnel, had so far not yielded any result, official sources told UNI on Monday.However, a team of fresh experts have been airlifted from Bandipora to the area to trace the missing student named Javed Ahmad Lone. “The experts will join the rescue teams already present in the area today,” they said. Lone and Ali Mohammad and Arif Hussain were on way to their home at Tulail after appearing examination at Gurez on February 15 when they were hit by a huge avalanche at Check Nallah. However, Hussain and Ali were rescued in an injured condition on the same day and shifted to the hospital. However, they said, the rescue operation was being hampered due to threat of fresh avalanches in the area. “Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service to recover Javid,” they said.

Gurez, a border town surrounded by Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) remained cut off from district headquarter Bandipora for more than past one month due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions, particularly at Razdan pass.
