J&K records deficit rainfall of 140.6 mm during monsoon season this year

Jammu and Kashmir recorded a deficit rainfall of 140.6mm and it was over 26 percent less from the normal rainfall during the monsoon season this year, independent weather Observer Faizan Arif said.
All together Jammu and Kashmir recorded 408.5mm rainfall from June 1 to September 30 against the normal range of rainfall of 549.1mm during the monsoon period, Faizan said.
He said “the rainfall was over 26 percent less this monsoon season in Jammu and Kashmir”.
Barring Baramulla, Samba and Jammu districts, all other districts of Jammu and Kashmir recorded below normal rainfall during this monsoon season.
Baramulla in north Kashmir was the only district in Kashmir valley to receive 1 percent above normal rainfall during the monsoon season from June 1 to September 30.
Similarly Samba district in Jammu region also received 13 percent above normal rainfall and was the best performing district in view of the rainfall this monsoon season. Arif said.
He said Jammu received exact normal rainfall as it should have to be this monsoon season.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir had recorded a rainfall deficit of 30 percent during the period.
Except Pulwama district which recorded a rainfall deficit of 13 percent, the other districts in south Kashmir received below normal rainfall in the range of 50 to 80 percent and similar was the case in other districts of Kashmir Valley.
In Jammu region, all other districts also received below normal rainfall in the range of 15 to 76 percent this monsoon.
Meanwhile, Ladakh received surplus rainfall of 17 percent, Kargil with 8 percent surplus and Leh with 18 percent, he added.
