J&K Freedom Fighter Association (JKFFA) today paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 28th Death Anniversary in a function at Dogra Shourya Shaheedi Sthal, Amphalla. The function was organized by Chairman JKFFA, Ved Gandotra and Vice Chairman, Rajiv Mahajan.
The speakers paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi and remembered his contribution towards nation building, upliftment of poor and down-trodden, implementation of Panchayat Raj, computer education, empowerment to Panchayats, etc.
Gandotra, while paying tributes to late Prime Minister, said that being a peace loving personality and visionary, Rajiv Gandhi always wanted to have friendly and cordial relations with neighbouring countries and during his tenure as Prime Minister nation touched new heights in the field of Science and Technology, Computer Education and Rural Development.
He termed Rajiv Gandhi as a visionary leader who pioneered Information Technology revolution and strengthened Panchayati Raj system to decentralize power at grass root level.
Gajan Singh Khajuria and Gaurav Chopra (Carporator) said Gandhi was a staunch believer of Gandhian philosophy and believed in the egalitarian concept of a society and equitable development of every section of society irrespective of religious and regional considerations.
They said that late Gandhi worked tirelessly for making India self reliant and economically prosperous, so that it could make a mark in the international community.
They added that former PM laid his life for upholding the democratic values, unity and integrity of India adding that his vision to strengthen country’s economy was pivotal in India’s growth and development.
Rajiv Mahajan, while paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, described him as a great visionary leader who prepared the youth of the country for the challenges of 21st century. He said Rajiv Gandhi fought against communal and divisive forces in the country and strengthened the secular forces.
Mahajan said that the best way to pay homage to departed leader was to follow his footsteps and work for unity, harmony and development of the country as he even offered his life, but did not compromise on his commitment and conviction.
Rajiv Gandhi is hailed as the ‘Father of Information Technology and Telecom Revolution of India’. He is rightfully known as the architect of digital India. It was under his rule that Centre for Development of Telemetric (C-DOT) was established in August 1984 to develop state-of-the-art telecommunication technology and meet the needs of the Indian telecommunication network. Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister announced National Policy on Education (NPE) in 1986 to modernise and expand higher education programmes across the country. With NPE in place, residential schools called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, under the central government, were set up to bring out the best of rural talent. These schools provide free residential education from grades six to twelve to the rural population, Mahajan maintained.
