JAMMU, July 26:
To commemorate the victory of Indian Army in Kargil in the 1999 War with Pakistan, the J&K Freedom Fighters’ Association (JKFFA) on Friday organized an impressive function at Dogra Shaurya Sthal, Ampbhalla under the chairmanship of JKFFA Chairman Ved Gandotra and Vice Chairman, Rajiv Mahajan.
Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs and candles were lit in their honour. A two minutes silence was also observed. Speaking on the occasion, the members remembered all the martyrs and said that the Indian Army was the best army in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahajan said that Kargil war is regarded as a testimony of the Indian Army’s grit and determination, in which the soldiers exhibited dauntless courage, resilience, valour and fought against all odds in bone chilling temperatures of the high altitude mountains in Kargil. The army evicted the entrenched infiltrators from the icy heights and ensured a convincing victory for the country. The turning point of the Kargil War was the recapture of the Tololing peak. The Tololing peak overlooked the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh highway and so, gave the Pakistani intruders an opportunity to cut the strategic highway off. The Tololing peak was recaptured by Indian soldiers on June 13, 1999.
While paying tributes to the Kargil heroes, Ravinder Mittal said that on the eventful day of Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the success of Operation Vijay on July 26, 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been illegally seized by the Pakistani intruders. He said that the indebted public of this great Nation pays tribute to all those who served the country during Operation Vijay. Courageous soldiers of India ensured that the borders remain protected and gave an apt reaction to those who tried to disturb the atmosphere of peace.
Mahajan threw light on the supreme valour shown by the Indian Army-men during the hour of need. He said that the Indian Army is capable of thwarting any such act by any hostile force at any hour so the enemy must shun any such idea in future.
“Salute to each and every martyr who fought fearlessly and sacrificed their life for our safety and the nation. Hats off to their indomitable courage and to the sacrifices of their families, we will always remain indebted,” Mahajan added.
Others executive members present were Th. Karnail Chand, Dr. Karan Gupta, H.S Billoria, Brig Mehra, Gaurav and others.
