SRINAGAR, Nov 05:
Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association and Jammu and Kashmir Adventure Sports Club today flagged off cyclist, Mahendra Mahajan and an ultra-runner, Shubam for Kashmir to Kanyakumar expedition.
The flag off ceremony took place at Ghanta Ghar at 7 am in the presence of officials from Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association and Jammu and Kashmir Adventure Sports Club.
The Maharashtra based doctor cyclist, Mahendra Mahajan will paddle 4000 km ultra-cycling expedition while as Uttarakhand based athlete will run same distance from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Both JKMBA and JKASC wished both the cyclist and the runner all the luck.
Dr. Mahendra Mahajan from Maharashtra decided to start his cycling expedition from Srinagar to set a record of fastest cycling for ‘Guiness World Record’ in less than 12 days.
“I started this expedition with a theme ‘Quit Tobacco – Healthy Citizens can only built Strong Nation’.
I’m very much hopeful that I can complete the expedition within the stipulated time,” said Mahajan.
Speaking on the occasion, Shubam said he started from Kashmir to see the beauty of the valley which would set a tone for my arduous journey.
He said while running, he wants to meet locals, exchange ideas and know about the culture of the places I visit.
“I have stayed here in Kashmir for over a week before starting my ultra-run.
The place is wonderful and people are friendlier. I will definitely spread the word about Kashmir’s beauty and hospitality among the people I meet,” he said.
Shubham has already created a record of cycling entire Himalayan length and also cycled from Gujarat to Kanya Kumari.
Adventure enthusiast’s Mahmood A Shah, Riyaz Wani, AR Bhat, Dr. Omar Salim Akhtar, Muzzammil Hussain and other prominent members of the association were also present on the occasion.
