Shahnawaz choudhary discussed the prevailing security situation of students of Jammu and Kashmir in Punjab state and expressed serious concerns over the issue of atmosphere of fear in which students are living in Punjab state which is considered to be the safest place for students of Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation submitted a memorandum in this regard and asked DGP Punjab Police to kindly take this matter seriously and ensure the safety of innocent students of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting three demands were put forward by the delegation which includes creation of special helpline by Punjab Police for students of Jammu and Kashmir and interaction with students of J&K by Punjab Police officers to create a sense of security among them that they are safe in Punjab and creation of post of nodal officers in Punjab under Punjab Police so students and parents can immediately contact them whenever they feel insecure.
DGP accepted all these demands and send directions to the police to create helplines on official social media sites of punjab police for students of Jammu and Kashmir. He also directed SSPs to have interaction programmes with the students in the institutions where most of the JK students study to make them feel easy and secure. He also said that two nodal officers posts one male and one female will be created soon in Punjab police and he also said that he will talk to his counterpart DGP Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbagh Singh to create nodal officer post in Jammu and Kashmir Police so a coordination can be maintained between the two states because a majority of students from J&K are studying in Punjab.
The DGP assured the delegation that all necessary steps shall be taken to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in Punjab for students of Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation thanked the Chief minister of Punjab Sh. Amarinder singh and DGP Punjab for fulfilling all the demands.
