JAMMU, Feb 18:
The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Youth Congress (JKPYC) today staged a strong protest against the Central Government for the ever-increasing fuel prices and for imposing the ‘black law’ of property tax in Jammu and Kashmir.
Led by Uday Chib, President of J&K unit of Youth Congress, scores of senior members and activists gathered outside the Press Club Jammu and raised slogans against the BJP-led government for its failure to check the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel which have crossed all the previous highs.
The hollow claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s government at the Centre was a pro-people government stand exposed now that the Centre has failed miserably to protect the interests of the common man, said Chib.
“The government has yet again failed to check the upward revision of fuel prices. The petrol has touched an all-time high, crossing Rs 100 per litre mark in the country while diesel is going to touch Rs 100 in the days to come,” said Chib, amidst the slogans of “Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bow, Assi Nabbe Poore Sow.”
“During the UPA regime, the BJP leaders would be out on roads when the petrol used to go above Rs 50 per litre and when there was Rs 3 tax on one litre of Diesel. Where are those leaders hiding now when the petrol has crossed Rs 100 and Rs 35 is charged as tax on one litre of diesel,” Chib asked.
The BJP is punishing the common public to fund Adanis and Ambanis, he added. He said that while the Modi government claims that its policies are in line with the welfare of general public in Jammu and Kashmir, the ground reality is starkly different.
“The policies of the Central Government have already broken the back of Jammu and Kashmir. The tourism sector is on its deathbed, unemployment is rising all time high and thousands of the government employees are on road in Jammu and Kashmir. Instead of correcting these issues, this government has now slammed a new property tax on the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he resented.
“The common man has been facing the brunt of inflation for so long now, impacting his daily life in every aspect. This black law of property tax is unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Until this black law is taken back, the Youth Congress will continue its protests against the government,” Chib said.
Those who joined the protest included Sahil Singh Langeh , Ranjeet Chopra Gen Secretaries JKPYC, Sandeep Sharma Media Coordinator JKPYC, Latish Sharma, Brinder Partap, Divyansh Jamwal , Jagjoot Singh Secretaries JKPYC, Ranjoot Singh Chairman sports JKPYC, Happy Randhawa DYC President (W), Surinder Attri , Manav Choudhary, Jagdeep Chahal VP DYC, Anirudh AYC President, Ashutosh AYC (W), Arun Choudhary, Prabhjot Singh , Jhonny Randhawa, Arvind Singh Thakur, Rohit Chib, Aftab Choudhary, Anil Sharma, Tarun Vaid, Vinay Baru, Varinder Mehta, Naresh Kumar Sharma, Atul Sharma, Ankush Sharma, Balwinder Singh, Ajay Pajgotra, Sunny Kumar and Deepak Hans.
