JAMMU, May 16:
While youth stay back home in present pandemic situation and restrictions imposed by the government, all three premier sports organisations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir–J&K Sports Council (JKSC), Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) and J&K Olympic Association (JKOA) seem clueless to engage the youngsters. With near nil active presence in the digital world, twin sports departments of JKSC and DYSS have virtually failed to evolve strategy to use its vast human resource, which, otherwise, remain idle enjoying undeclared holidays back home.
The third sports conglomerate of various associations, the JKOA virtually has no online platform, what to talk of exploring the possibilities of reaching out to the youth in this hour of crisis digitally.”It is extremely difficult to keep the children stay home 24×7 that too without any work to do. Except for a few hours of online classes, there is hardly any activity. Under such circumstances, it becomes the duty of sports organisations, especially those government run departments to engage those sports enthusiasts,” said young entrepreneur and sports enthusiast, Sanjog Katoch.Believe it or not, but the fact remains that even those matriculate coaches of the JKSC draw hefty salaries of touching Rs one lakh that too without any work.”The services of these highly paid coaches should be used during the tough situations of Covid-19 pandemic. A couple of hour online classes can help a lot to those young trainees and fitness enthusiasts. Very sad to see that these premier sports organisations failed in their duty to contribute and seem clueless about engaging the youth,” said international skater, Aryavir Singh has been active on various social media platforms motivating the sportspersons.
Unfortunately, the important sports wing of the JKSC has been headless ever since Abdul Qayoom retired from the post of Chief Sports Officer. The office of the CSO has got the mandate to plan and frame policies aiming at sports. “It is very unfortunate that the top position of CSO lying vacant for the last around two years. How can one expect planning and focussed attention on those budding talent in the absence of head of the sports wing that took in the top government owned sports organisation,” expressing his concern former Divisional Sports Officer of the JKSC, Rajan Sharma told SAN.
