JMC in collaboration with Regional and Urban Development Agency and Government College of Education, Jammu organized an awareness programme on sustainable waste management practices under Plastic Waste Management Programme supported by Coca Cola and UNDP at the premises of Government College of Education, Canal Road, Jammu in presence of Advocate Purnima Sharma, Hon’ble Dy Mayor JMC, Shri Yashpal Sharma, Hon’ble Chairman Swachh Bharat MissionJMC,Shri Hardeep Singh Mankotia, Hon’ble Corporator Ward No 26, Shri Dinesh Gupta, Hon’ble Corporator Ward No 18, Ms.Tinna Mahajan Secretary JMC, Mr. Sanjeev Arora CEO Regional and Urban Development Agency and Mohammad Ameen City Lead UNDP.
The programme started with the Welcome address byProf C.L Shivgotra, Vice Principal, Govt college of Education followed by detailed deliberations on Plastic Waste Management programme byMr. SanjeevArora wherein emphasis was laid down on sustainable collection, segregation and recycling of plastic waste.
The nukkadnatak organized by the IEC team of JMC was the highlight of the programme wherein the participants were sensitized about plastic pollution and ways to combat it. Purnima Sharma, Hon’ble Dy Mayor JMCalso spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the various initiatives taken up by JMC for creating awareness among Jammuites for waste management. Shri Yashpal Sharma also spoke on the topic and further requested students to propagate message of Swachhta among family and friends.
Ms. Tinna Mahajan Secretary also spoke on the occasion and elaborated on the different interventions of JMC for managing the solid waste including plastics. She also requested the participants to installSwachhta app and participate in Swachh Sarvekshan 2021.Apart from this she emphasized that the students should be encouraged to bring segregated dry waste from their houses and deposit the same in the college. She maintained that the waste deposited by the students will be registered and those students who will bring more waste shall be rewarded at the end of the month.
Swachhta Pledge was also taken for reduce, reuse and recycling of Plastic Waste,
At the end of the programme dustbin made of Multi Layered Plastics (MLP) was inaugurated by the dignitaries and handed over to the college Administration.
Ms. Kulvinder Kour, Principal Government College of Education also spoke on the occasion and motivated staff and students to become role model for the society and segregate waste at HH level and assured to render all support to the plastic Waste Management Programme of UNDP. The other members present during the occasion were Dr. Shalini Sharma Convenor Nature Club, GCOE, Prof. Satish Sharma, Prof. Tahira Shah, Dr. Jyoti Parivar. At the end, volte of thanks was presented by Dr Shubra Jamwal, NSS programme Officer and Lecturer, GCOE.
