To celebrate Golden Jubilee of NSS, a function was organized by the Chairperson, Campus NSS Units, University of Jammu and the Office of the Programme Coordinator, University of Jammu. Prof Manoj Dhar,Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, the Chief Guest on the occasion congratulated all present on the occasion for the Golden Jubilee of the NSS and the University of Jammu. He lauded the work done by NSS, but also urged the volunteers to introspect about their roles and responsibilities. He asked them to understand issues facing the University and the society and be the change agents through constant and concerted efforts. He extended all support to the NSS in their activities and suggested that a calendar of activities be prepared for the whole year. He also suggested on initiating incentives for commendable volunteer work and stressed on the need of promoting volunteerism through campaigns.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor was welcomed with NSS Clapping by the volunteers followed by traditional Lighting of the Lamp and an invocation chant by the volunteers.
Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu and Former Chairman NSS Campus Units, and Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director Women’s Studies, University of Jammu and former Program Coordinator NSS were the special guests on the occasion. Earlier, Chairperson NSS, Prof Neeru Sharma in her welcome address stressed on the youth development and engagement. This was followed by experience sharing by Prof Vishav Raksha, whose tryst with NSS started with being the NSS Volunteer, walking down the Rajpath in the Republic Day Parade and then becoming an NSS Programme Officer and then The Programme Coordinator.
She talked about her journey through all these phases, and said that Once a volunteer always a volunteer.
Various experiences were shared by senior NSS Volunteers Ms Diksha, Mr. Vikrant, Mr Jasvir Singh , Mr Vivek Parihar. Mr Jasvir singh also presented a power point presentation on NSS in JU, describing the role the volunteers of the Campus have played in earning a name for the University of Jammu. He talked about National Awardees, VC Certificate Holders, and other activities of the Campus NSS Units. Dr Satinder Kumar, Programme Coordinator NSS, read a brief report of the NSS activities of the colleges under the jurisdiction of University of Jammu.
Speaking on the Prof. Jasbir Singh, DSW, urged the volunteers to mentor the students into joining NSS in the Campus. He stressed on the need for selfless service of the Nation.
Dr. Anju Thappa, Program Officer presented the vote of thanks. The POs who coordinated the program and were present on the occasion were Dr. Meghna Dhar, Dr Hema Gandotra, Dr. Savita Nayyar, and Dr. Seema Rohmetra. Others present on the occasion were Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Spl Secy to Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anupama Vohra, Co Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee and former PO, Dr. Suresh Rao, Dr. Sapna Sangra, Former PO and NSS volunteers of the Campus. The program was compered by Ms. Srishti Koul and Mr. Irfan.
