To commemorate ‘Prakr ama Parva’, the 2nd anniversary of the ‘Surgical Strike’, which is acclaimed as one of the highly professionally conducted strikes in the world, an impressive seminar was organized by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium. Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal AVSM was the keynote speaker and Prof. Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu presided over the programme. Prof. Shailender Singh, (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Satya Paul (Co-Chairman Campus Cultural Committee) and Dr. B.K. Bajaj (Associate Dean SW) were alo present.
In his address, Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal AVSM emphatically narrated different anecdotes exemplifying the valour of our soldiers.
He asserted that every Dogra is a soldier by instinct and spoke about many incidents where our ancestors have made supreme sacrifices to keep the flag of our great Nation high.
He also paid his reverence to Brig. Rajinder Singh, who is the savior of the State of Jammu & Kashmir. He congratulated University of Jammu for organizing such a meaningful programme to pay respect to our brave soldiers and such programmes do matter to boost the morale of the soldiers who sacrifice their personal and social life in the service of the Nation.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Keshav Sharma congratulated the new Dean Students Welfare for organizing such a wonderful programme as his first event.
Saluting the army for its valour, nationalism integrity and discipline, he shared some of his fond memories of his association with army in his formative years. In his highly charged speech, he urged on the need that society as a whole should understand the sacrifice army personnel make every day and should be more respectful towards them and their families. The highly charged and motivated audience interacted uninhibitedly with the speaker.
Earlier in his welcome address, Prof. Shailender Singh Jamwal, Dean Students Welfare, invoked the sense of nationalism amongst the youth and complemented the students for attending the seminar in such a large number that the auditorium was jam-packed with the young audience. Dr. Anil Gupta, Assistant Dean SW elaborately introduced the keynote speaker.
The seminar was attended by Prof Dipankar Sengupta (Dean Placements) Prof. K. S. Charak (President JUTA), Prof. R.K. Ganjoo (Director College Development Council), Army Veterans, Faculty members of the University of Jammu, students and scholars.
The event was conducted by Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean SW) and was coordinated by Dr. Vinay Thusso (PRO), Capt. S.R. Dubey (Security Officer) and Mr. Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor). The hall management was done by Kulbhushan Thakur, Arif Paul, Sunny Singh, Guneet Singh and Tegdhar Kaur.
