The five days Chenab Valley Youth Festival ‘SANGAM 2018-19’ concluded with the distribution of prizes among the winners and participants on the final day of the mega event.
The SANGAM 2018-19, with the tag line of ‘Let’s Build Our Nation’ was organized by Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu in collaboration with Rashtriya Rifles based at Bhaderwah, to promote everlasting peace and prosperity in the Chenab Valley and also give youth of all the three regions of the state, a platform and exposure to showcase their skills in different fields.
The Closing Ceremony of the mega event was held in the premises of Bhadarwah Campus, where Prof. M. K. Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest.
The Vice-Chancellor in his address stressed on empowerment of youth and appreciated the role of Army. “Youth are for nation building and we are indebted to 4- Rashtriya Rifles and Bhadarwah Campus, University of Jammu for taking this initiative of bringing together the young minds of the State.
Such endeavors inculcate the sense of discipline, self-confidence, dedication, responsibility, vision and most importantly patriotism among the youth leading to a strong nation building”, said Prof. Dhar.
“In the present context of globalization and technological advancements, holding of such events by Indian Army and Bhadarwah Campus is a welcome sign to inculcate the sense of unity, integrity, discipline, punctuality and over all the human values. Such festivals emerge as the best platforms for exchange of culture, traditions, customs, folklore, music thus imbibing a strong networking of human values among different sections of society particularly the youth, the target mass in the current context, “said Prof. Dhar, adding the festival not only showcases the dances, music and culture but also brings the people together and thereby develops a sense of belongingness and national integration.
Prof G M Bhat, Rector, Bhadarwah Campus, in his address said, “Through Sadhbhavana, Army not only contributed to the development in infrastructure including institutions but also has taken up the development of youth through sports, educational and allied activities.
The Rector further said that the event has turned out to be a ‘Sangam’ of entire Jammu and Kashmir, in true letter and spirit and hoped that in future more students will join to make it a mega ‘Sangam’. He also appreciated the participation of the colleges from Kashmir valley.
During the Closing Ceremony the Commanding Officer, Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah in his address highlighted the aspect of return of normalcy in the region which was evident from the enthusiastic
participation of the students from various colleges including the girl students. Proceeding of the closing ceremony was conducted by Dr. Neeraj Sharma and Ambish Malik while as vote of thanks was presented by External Relations Officer Arif Haleem Khateeb.
The Mega event witnessed participation of more than 1100 students and teachers from 23 Colleges including Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, Islamia Faridia College Kishtwar, Government Degree Colleges of Bhadarwah, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Kilhotran, Marwah and Chatroo, besides ten colleges from Kashmir Valley-GDC Ganderbal, Pulwama, Sogam, Tangdhar, SP College and one from Leh, hence becoming the first University Campus of the State where the students from all the three regions viz Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh gathered on one platform and set an example of region al cooperation. It is notable that the ‘SANGAM 2018’ was inaugurated by GOC Delta Force Maj Gen Rajiv Nanda on 5th of September, in presence of a large number of Civil and Military dignitaries and Principals, teachers and students from participating campuses, colleges and Schools and civil society.
The highlight of the closing ceremony was the mesmerizing performance by the students of Government Degree College Ladakh. Participants from other colleges and University campus also presented a colorful performance depicting the culture of different regions of the state, in which they showcased their unique culture and age-old traditional dance skills.
The overall runners-up trophy was bagged by Govt Degree College Doda who secured 422 points while Bhadarwah Campus lifted the coveted Sangam Trophy with 491 points. The students participated in 50 events during the fes tival. The Closing Ceremony ended with prize distribution to all the students, including winners and runners-up teams, beside all participating players by the Chief Guest Prof. M.K.Dhar along with other dignitaries.
Special prize was awarded to Government Degree College Ladakh as a token of love and appreciation for their scintillating performance.
Prominent among those who were present during the closing ceremony includes special invitee Phunsung Ladakhi, Prof G. M. Bhat Rector Bhadarwah Campus, CO 4 RR , ASP Bhadarwah Rajinder Singh, officials from 4RR, SHO Munir Khan, Prof Neeraj Kotwal.
