JU set to touch new milestones in academic excellence: VC

Exuding confidence that the University of Jammu will touch new milestones in academic excellence, Vice Chancellor Prof R. D. Sharma today said though the University has been granted autonomy yet the procedures and norms laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC) have to followed and adhered in letter and spirit.
Vice Chancellor further apprised that based on the NAAC grading, the University is being considered for a special grant to the tune of around Rupees 100 Crores under RUSA by MHRD, for upgrading and enriching the University infrastructural resources in order to make it comparable with any leading institution at the global level.
“University of Jammu has excelled immensely in the fields of academics and research and this momentum has to be maintained with renewed vigour and in a team spirit”, Prof R D Sharma said while chairing the meeting of the Academic Council.
The Vice Chancellor dwelt upon various important matters related to academics and research and its offsite campuses and hoped this odyssey will continue.
Seeking continued and active participation of all the members during the deliberations on various issues related to academics, examinations and research, Prof. Sharma said that these matters should be thoroughly examined in corroboration to the laid down statutes and procedures by the various academic bodies for further discussion.
During the meeting, around 30 agenda items were presented by Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, University of Jammu. Threadbare discussions were held on each of the agenda items along with the Action Taken Report on the resolutions of the last Academic Council.
The item with regard to introduction of self supporting Master’s Degree Programme in Education in the Directorate of Distance Education, JU was endorsed whereas the proposal for introduction of Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Entrepreneurship (self- Financing) of one year duration in the DDE, JU was also agreed in principle.
Prof. Neelam Saraf was unanimously nominated for the triennial period 2018-2021 to work on the Syndicate in pursuance of Section 23(1) (viii) of Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act, 1969.
The agenda item with regard to the adoption of Dogri Literature as Core subject at Under Graduate Level in the Colleges was also endorsed.
The proposal with regard to the directive of MHRD to publish Identity Cards, Prospectus bilingually was also endorsed during the meeting.
Various other important academic matters of the University related to admission, examination, research etc were also discussed in the Academic Council meeting, which was attended by Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Deans of various Faculties, Rectors/Directors of the Offsite campuses, Heads of the Departments, Conveners of Boards of Studies, College Principals and other officials of the University.
