The students of MBA (Tourism & Travel Management) of University of Jammu won accolades from the team of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce &Industry (FICCI), New Delhi for their active and exemplary contribution as volunteers at the 13th Great Indian Travel Bazaar (GITB), at Jaipur Exhibition & Convention Centre (JECC), Jaipur. The experiential based educational trip was organized by School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM), University of Jammu.
Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai, SHTM restructured its PG curriculum to lay more emphasis on experiential based learning and provide direct exposure to the corporate world.
As part of the new curriculum, it is mandatory for students to get an exposure to any trade fair or special interest activity with an objective to enhance their practical understanding of the travel and tourism Industry.
Prof Anil Gupta, Director, SHTM shared that during the event, the students were involved in all the pre-event activities, managed over 11000 pre-structured B2B meetings of more than 250 Foreign Tour Operators from over 50 countries and interacted with more than 200 leading domestic corporate houses who were the exhibitors. He further said that the trip provided students with invaluable real-world experience, allowing them to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Serving as volunteers at one of India’s largest travel and tourism events, they contributed to the seamless execution of GITB, showcasing their skills and passion for the industry.
The students were mentored under the guidance of Dr. Suvidha Khanna, Dr.Poonam Sharma, Dr. Nikita Dogra and Dr.Priyanka Sharma. The event not just served as a training platform for the students but also enabled the School to develop corporate linkages which can be leveraged in the long run.
