Director Abhishek Varman‘s Kalank has earned Rs 44.65 crore after its three-day run at the Box Office. The film that features Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead garnered Rs 11.60 crore on Friday in India. The third-day collection of the film is lower than the opening day – Wednesday, but almost equal to what the film minted on Tuesday. This means that Kalank has failed to show any substantiate growth. However, the film’s collection is likely to improve on Saturday and Sunday. The first weekend collection of the film is expected to be around Rs 80 crore if it doesn’t register a huge dip in the earnings.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the latest Box Office figures of Kalank and wrote on Twitter, “#Kalank sees minimal growth on Day 3 [#GoodFriday holiday]… Big jump is clearly missing… Plexes better, mass circuits ordinary/weak… Now dependent on Sat and Sun to add to the total… Wed 21.60 cr, Thu 11.45 cr, Fri 11.60 cr. Total: ₹ 44.65 cr. India biz.”
Kalank is made on a huge budget of Rs 150 crore but it hasn’t been able to impress the audience with its larger-than-life appeal. Both the critics and the audience have shown resentment with the unrelated visual effects and the grandeur of the film. In fact, on its opening day itself, Kalank turned into a meme fest on social media.
Set in the era of India-Pakistan partition, the Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala-produced film has been touted as an epic love story. This is also the fourth time Varun and Alia have been paired on-screen. The three other films in which they were seen romantically involved also belonged to Dharma Productions – Student of The Year (2012), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017).
Watch out for Kalank’s weekend performance now!
