Former Minister and District Congress President, Manjit Singh on Thursday said that Kashmir is an integral part of India because of first Prime Minister of India Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru.
He spoke these words during a function organized to remember the first Prime Minister Pt Nehru and his contribution towards the nation when British left the country following formation of two countries i.e. India and Pakistan.
Though Pakistan tried hard to snatch Kashmir towards herself, but failed because of the policies and plans of the Pt Nehru, claimed the Congress leader, while speaking before the party workers after they garlanded the photo of Pt Nehru on his birth anniversary.
“It was Pt Nehru who united the country and included Kashmir as part of India despite hard efforts made by Pakistan,” he said, adding that his politics grounded the plans of Pakistan and it proved how Pt Nehru was strategically and politically was powerful Prime Minister of India.
He said that wrong impression is being created by the people by defaming Pt Nehru due to their petty political gains and divide country to remain in power.
However, Pt Nehru is such a figure who was foresighted with regard to national security and its strong borders which has proven by the history time and again, he added.
He highlighted that Pt Nehru fought against British rule alongside Mahatama Gandhi in Indian freedom struggle.
Despite being a Muslim majority state, he said, J&K joined Indian Union because of positive politics played by Pt Nehru and Kashmiris became citizens of the country.Those who spoke on the occasion includes Block president Capt Mohan Lal Sharma, Babbal Gupta, Retd Col Swaran Singh, Tirath Bhagat, Sham Lal Bhagat- Ex Sarpanch, Bharat Bhushan, Tilak Raj Sharma, Ram Lal Sharma, Joginder Lal-Sarpanch Vijaypur.
