New Delhi, July 30
The INDIA bloc staged a protest at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday, condemning the alleged illegal arrest and mistreatment of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Leaders from several parties, including AAP, Congress, SP, CPI, CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), CP (Marxist), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and TMC, united in their demand for Kejriwal’s immediate release. Sunita Kejriwal, speaking at the protest, alleged that her husband’s arrest was part of a “deep political conspiracy”.
She criticised the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) actions, claiming that Kejriwal was jailed “based on a statement, without any proof” just before the Lok Sabha elections in March.
Sunita expressed concern over Kejriwal’s health, she said, “His diabetes and the lack of proper medical care in jail had dangerously dropped below 50 mg/dL on five times while in jail.”
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Kejriwal’s political influence and success were reasons behind his incarceration. “Arvind Kejriwal has to take insulin injections daily, yet he is still fighting for the country”.
Expressed solidarity with AAP, senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, “Every single leader of the Congress is with the AAP in this struggle.” “He has crossed all limits of inhumanity. Arvind Kejriwal’s sugar level is falling to dangerous levels. He should have been released on grounds of humanity, but that too is being opposed.” he said.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar criticized the central government for its actions against Kejriwal, he said that it was unprecedented for a Chief Minister to be jailed for policy-related matters. “The BJP government, angry with Arvind Kejriwal’s good governance, violated laws and sent him to jail,” Pawar remarked. Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav joined the protest condemning the arrest as politically motivated and expressing solidarity with Kejriwal.
