A law student became the centre of attraction during a demonstration held by the Congress party in Kozhikode against the amended Citizenship Act. Manu Arjun, district secretary of Kerala Students Union (KSU), invigorated the participants with his ‘Azadi’ slogans, prompting senior party leader Shashi Tharoor to call him ‘Kerala’s Kanhaiya Kumar’.
A final year student at Kozhikode Law College, Manu says he got the opportunity to chant slogans unexpectedly during the demonstration. Inspired by rallies of former JNU students leader Kanhaiya Kumar, Manu didn’t have a second thought before going with the ‘Azadi’ slogans, which once had reverberated the campus of the prestigious university. Manu was thrilled when senior leaders like Tharoor and DCC president T. Siddiq chanted the slogans along with him. The videos of the protest event has since then gone viral. According to Manorama Online, Manu hails from Wayanad district of Kerala. Having lost his parents in the tender age, Manu had to face quite a lot of hardships during his childhood and study.
