jammu, Oct 24:
Jammu’s promising cricketer Sahil Kumar (15) has made it to the under-17 side for state team. Elated over his selection, the teenager from remote Kootha area of Hiranagar, Kathua now dreams of playing test cricket for the Indian national team.
“I had attended a month-long camp in Srinagar after which I got a call that I have been selected for state level under-17 team. This is a proud moment for me. It was my dream to play test cricket,” he said.
A Class X student of Government Higher Secondary School Kootha , Hiranagar and a resident of the Kootha area, Sahil said he would be part of state team at national level tournaments. He said he started playing cricket from an early age and Indian skipper Virat Kohli was his favourite batsman.
Sahil’s selection to the state side is bound to encourage young cricketers of the remote and border villages as not many locals have represented the state team from the rural areas as selections mostly confined to urban localities only.
Earlier, Principal of the Government HIghter Secondery School Kootha, Hiranagar, Daleep Kumar Gupta felicitated the student and presented him a cricket kit and school uniform in presence of all the staff members. Principal also wished him good in future.
