Kriti Sanon recently walked home with a trophy at the recent Zee Cine Awards for her fun performance in the comedy heist drama Tere Baaton Mein Aisa Ulja Jiya. While she expressed her excitement in the speech, it also ignited a long-overdue conversation about the place of comedy in mainstream awards recognition. The actor, who was honoured with the Best Actress award, used her acceptance speech to raise a pointed issue often brushed under the red carpet.“Thank you. This one’s really, really special,” Kriti began. “Mujhe genuinely aisa lagta hai ki kabhi kabhi comic roles unhe best actor–best actress category me nominate bhi nahin karte hai, normally (I genuinely think that normally, many times, they do not nominate actors-actresses in comic roles). And I’ve never understood why, you know, because I think bahut mushkil hota hai logo ko hasana, aisa mujhe lagta hai (I guess, what I think is that it is quite difficult to make others laugh). And thank you, Zee, for recognizing the effort.”
