Kriti Sanon recently found success with ‘Crew’, in which she shared screen space with Kareena Kapoor and Tabu. The film went on to earn over ?75 crore at the domestic box office. Riding high after Rajesh A Krishnan’s heist comedy, ‘Crew’, Kriti Sanon spoke out against pay disparity in a recent interview with Film Companion. Here’s what Kriti shared:
“The difference in payment between male and female actors is currently huge for no valid reason.Sometimes, for no reason at all. Sometimes, you feel like it’s not as if that person has had a hit in 10 years, so why is he getting paid 10 times more?” Kriti questioned. She explained how producers justified the gap. “A lot of the time, producers say it’s about recovery. The recovery happens with digital and satellite rights, which are often secured before a film is released, before word-of-mouth can take off. To get that kind of budget from digital and satellite rights-because on these platforms, male-centric films tend to perform much better compared to a film centered around a woman. I think that’s where the difference lies,” she added. The actress revealed that some of her male co-stars earned 10 times more than her, despite not delivering hits for years.
