MONZA, APR 16
India’s Kush Maini enjoyed a splendid first weekend in the Formula Renault Eurocup racing series here, finishing third and fifth in the two races.
Maini grabbed a podium place on Saturday, coming home in third, before claiming the fifth spot in Sunday’s Race 2. The latter performance earned him the Hankook Trophy as the highest-placed rookie.
Maini, who drives for M2 Competition, was elated with his showing in his debut race, when he dropped to fourth early on but fought back to gain one spot. On Sunday, the 18-year-old held his own on a rain-soaked track to cap off a fine weekend.
Good pace
“We had good pace in being consistently in the leading group during the pre-season collective tests.
“We expected to run up front, but last month I never thought that we would finish third in our first race, then win the rookie category.
“This gives us a solid foundation and I hope that we can continue to get stronger as the season progresses,” he said afterwards.
Maini now has 25 points from the two races.
“ The next round of the season will be run at Silverstone from May 10-12.
