KVK Samba celebrated Field Day on Wheat

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Samba under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised field day on wheat crop at village Patti in Samba district of J&K under the aegis of Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. More than 55 progressive farmers as well as beneficiaries has actively attend the programme. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba has laid Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on wheat crop in said village and farmers of the area were highly satisfied by the performance of wheat crop var. WH-1080.
Dr. Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Samba initiated the programme with the role of Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) and their importance. He appreciated the farmers for their good efforts in production of wheat crop and requested them to promote this variety (WH 1080) at large scale in their area. He stressed upon the importance of orgainising the importance of field day of the potential variety against the farmers locally used varities. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria briefed about the importance of field day on wheat crop in the village and its impact on the adjoining villages. Dr. Khajuria insisted upon the farmers to promote WH-1080 variety in large scale in adjoining villages so that they can also fetch a good profit from this variety. He disclosed that this variety has been developed by Haryana Agriculture University in the year 2011 and is being recommended to the rainfed areas of India including Kandi area of Jammu Province. Dr. Amit Mahajan laid emphasis on the use of FYM, vermicompost and other bio-fertilisers for the production of organic wheat. He also stressed on the soil health management for the better returns in wheat crop. He suggested the farmers that they should save their wheat crop from the fungal diseases by using recommended fungicides. He elaborated the control measures of wheat diseases like loose smut and yellow rust of wheat.
The team of scientists elaborated in detail about the technological operations involved in wheat crop. They motivated the farmers so that they can fetch more profit by growing organic wheat at commercial level as it is in great demand now a days. On field results of wheat crop were also demonstrated to the farmers and the farmers were satisfied after observing the results. In this programme, various queries were made by the farmers which were replied on the spot. In this programme, panches of the area as well as team ATMA Samba actively participated.
Farmers shared their experiences about the Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on wheat crop and appreciated the KVK Samba efforts to disseminate the new agricultural technologies to the farmers for their benefit. In the end, satpal Sharma a leading progressive farmer of the village thanked KVK Samba for choosing their village for laying out demonstration on wonderful variety of wheat crop WH-1080, which has shown an extra ordinary performance in their Kandi Village.
