Labour Day, celebrated to honor the invaluable contributions of workers was marked with fervor and gratitude to workers across J&K. A function was also organized at Akhnoor in Jammu where Labour Commissioner J&K, Sh Charandeep Singh graced the occasion. The events underscored commitment towards supporting the welfare and rights of workers and symbolized solidarity with the labour force, reaffirming the importance of their role in nation-building.
A diverse assembly of workers and members of the public gathered to commemorate the day. At Akhnoor, Labour Commissioner, J&K interacted with members of the labour class, engaging in meaningful discussions about their challenges and aspirations.
Subject of wages, safety and health and basic amenities envisaged under labour laws were touched upon. The event also provided a platform for beneficiaries of labour welfare schemes to share their inspiring stories, highlighting the transformative impact of these welfare initiatives in their lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh Charandeep Singh reiterated the commitment of the Labour Department towards fostering an inclusive and equitable environment that empowers labourers and ensures their holistic development.
“We are committed to enhancing the welfare, safety, health and overall well-being of workers in both the organised and unorganised sectors and also harmonizing the needs of workers and industry” he said.
Recognising the role of various individuals in advancing the cause of Labour welfare including social workers and employees, appreciation certificates were handed over to them by the Labour Commissioner.
A captivating street play (Nukkad Natak) showcasing the various labour welfare schemes was also performed on the occasion. Later in the day, Sh Charandeep Singh also interacted with female students of the Integrated Village Development Center of Sohal Akhnoor, underscoring the government’s commitment to empowering women and providing them with equal opportunities for growth and development.
Others who were present included ALC Central Smt Renu Bala, officers and officials of the Labour Department, prominent citizens, social workers, employers representatives and members of the general public.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, Jammu Smt Rupali Jasrotia expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and reiterated the department’s unwavering dedication to advocating for the welfare and rights of workers. A vote of thanks was also extended by her. Labour Day was celebrated throughout the J&K with active participation of all Assistant labour Commissioners in their respective districts. As Labour Day concluded amidst a spirit of camaraderie and gratitude, it served as a poignant reminder of the indomitable spirit and resilience of the labour force, whose efforts continue to fuel the progress and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation.
