Actor Akshay Kumar has wrapped his work on Good News with Kareena Kapoor Khanand now, he is ready to delve straight into the world of horror with the Hindi remake of Tamil film Muni 2: Kanchana (2011). The film is tentatively titled as Lakshmi and has got writer-director Farhad Samji on board to pen down the script. Now, a daily has learned that Samji has tweaked the original script of the film to suit the Hindi movie audience. Mid-Day reports that as opposed to the protagonist in the original Tamil film, Akshay’s character in Lakshmi will be shown as the man who doesn’t fear ghost.
The source close to the development revealed to the daily that Akshay Kumar will be seen possessed by only one ghost and not three the way it was shown in the Tamil film. Further, Kiara Advani‘s character in the film is getting more layers. The actor plays the wife of Akshay’s character and her role has been designed as crucial to the exorcism part. The daily quoted the source saying, “The makers also reworked the narrative to create a meaty role for Kiara Advani, who plays Akshay’s wife. In the original film, the hero’s mother and sister-in-law have pivotal parts. In the Hindi counterpart, the sequence where Akshay’s character is possessed by a ghost – the turning point in the story – will take place at Kiara’s house.”
The film is being directed by Raghava Lawrence, who helmed all the three parts of the successful Kanchana franchise and also acted as the lead in all of them. Lakshmi also brings Akshay back to the horror genre after 12 years. The actor was seen in 2007 horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa with Vidya Balan and Shiney Ahuja. Akshay will begin shooting for the film with a song titled Bismillah. After wrapping up the first schedule, he will move to shoot Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi in Goa.
