PATNA, MAY 10,
After 24-hours of suspense, incarcerated former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad on Thursday got three-days parole to attend his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav’s marriage in Patna.
Prasad is likely to reach Patna late on Thursday evening. He had initially applied for a five-day parole. Convicted in four animal husbandry scam cases, he is currently lodged in Birsa Munda Central jail in Ranchi since December 23, 2017.
Tej Pratap is to marry Aishwarya Rai, daughter of RJD leader Chandrika Yadav and grand-daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai, on May 12 at Patna veterinary college ground.
The engagement was held in a Patna hotel on April 18 in the absence of Prasad. Later, an emotional Tej Pratap posted “Miss you Papa” on his Twitter account.
Medical board of RIMS declares him fit
Earlier on Wednesday, the medical board of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where Prasad is admitted on health ground, declared his condition as stable for granting parole to him. “Mr. Prasad’s health bulletin says everything is normal…he is stable and healthy,” RIMS superintendent R.K. Shrivastva said.
Meanwhile, the ceremonies for the marriage have started in Patna and relatives and friends of Prasad and his wife, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, are present.
“We’re happy that our leader has got parole to attend the marriage ceremony but I would also like to ask why it has been given only for three days?… it smacks of political vendetta by the BJP government there,” said RJD MLA and party spokesperson Shakti Yadav.
