A guest lecture by Mr. O.P. Sharma, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, was organized at School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. The event was organized by Dr. Preeti Sharma, Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology for the B.Tech. students under the aegis of course Environmental Studies. Prof. V. Verma, Head of School of Biotechnology welcomed the guest highlighting his tremendous contribution to the society and congratulating him for successfully running a Tree-Talk awareness campaign which has completed more than 615 series motivating the students from different streams including university students, colleges and schools in Jammu & Kashmir State.
In the backdrop of Climate Change and in tune with UN Declared Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030, Mr. O. P. Sharma, highlighted the need to know wild edible and medicinal plants, adopt sustainable harvest approaches, go for insitu and exsitu conservation, management and conservation of drinking water resources using newer biotechnological means and methods to evolve new crops and sustainable harvest technologies and add value to resources as mandated under Indian Biodiversity Act 2002 and as per SDG goals 2,12, 13, 14. The lecture was followed by interaction with students and faculty. Mr. Mir Irfan-Ul-Haq, Assistant professor, Mechanical Engineering and Prof. V. Verma, Dean, Faculty of Engineering felicitated the guest and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Preeti Sharma.
