Legal Aid Clinic Inaugurated in Dogra Law College

A Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated today at Dogra Law College by the District Legal Services Authority Samba. The impressive inaugural ceremony was presided over by Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust. The Legal Aid Cell was inaugurated by Sh. Mohammad Akram Chowdhary, Member Secretary, J&K State Legal Services Authority and Sh. M.K Sharma, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Samba Ms.Swati Gupta, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Samba was also present, Kr.Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust and Col. (Dr) K.N Padha Director,Admn&CD Dogra Educational Trust also graced the ocassion.
The Legal Aid Clinic will provide free Legal Aid and services to the needy and weaker sections of the society. Legal Aid Clinic serves two fold purposes the first that it provides free legal services and legal advice, the second it directs the energies of Law students in contributing towards social cause. Mr. Mohammad Akram Chowdhary in his address emphasized upon the importance of legal aid to weaker sections in India and regarded it essential to all those who are not able to pay for legal services. M.K Sharma while addressing the students stressed the importance of Legal Aid Clinics for weaker sections of society. Such clinics also contribute in developing future civil right lawyers and activists. Th. Gulchain Singh Charak, in his presidential address spoke about the importance of legal aid and thanked the District Legal Services Authority for opening the clinic in Dogra Law College. Earlier Prof. V.P Magotra, Principal Dogra Law College, accorded warm welcome to the dignitaries. He also spoke on the importance of setting up of the Legal Aid Clinic in College and assured the District Legal Services Authority, Samba that all assistance will be provided for smooth functioning of the clinic. A list of Law volunteers has been prepared who alongwith faculty members shall associate themselves with the clinic which shall remain open during College time on all working days.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Gurkirat Kaur, a student of 6th Sem, LLB 3years course.Mr. Vishal Dogra, a student of LLB 5 years-8th sem, anchored the whole event.
