Up in arms against continuing power cut for the last 24 hours, residents, including children, women and senior citizens, of sector 1, 2 and 3 of Ward Nos 64 and 66 at Lower Roop Nagar today protested against Power Development Department.
The protest was organized under the leadership of former J&K President Kranti Dal, Pritam Sharma.
The protesters assembled at lower Roop Nagar amidst raising of slogans against PDD. While addressing the gathering, Pritam Sharma said that the residents of aforesaid areas are facing power crisis/ unscheduled power cuts as electricity woes continue unabated in the area.
He said on one side J&K administration claimed that Jammu with be development as smart city but on the other it harass public because of unscheduled power cuts and scarcity of potable water in this hot summer season.
“The PDD is testing our patience as we have been facing hardships due to a power crisis for the last night. The children, old and infirm are the worst sufferers. We cannot live without power in this hot weather,” he said.
He claimed that the aforesaid areas had been without electricity since past 24 hours due to the damaging of wire by the dumpers engaging material supply by a businessman of the area.
“Despite our repeated pleas, the PDD has failed to resolve the problem. We will be forced to launch a massive agitation against the authorities in case the power supply is not restored at the earliest to our area,” he said.
Others present in the protest include Narinder Kumar Bhat, Jagdish Singh, Bansi Lal Bhat, Surinder, Tersem Lal Chib, Radha Kumari, Ranjana Kumari, Pooja Devi, Puran Chand Khajuria, Ajay Koul, Pt Ravi Kumar, Roshan Lal Bhat, Ashok Kumar, Vinod Kumar Raina, Surinder Kumar Raina, Ravi Kumar, Richu Kumar, Rajinder Singh, Anil Kumar, Ashok Kumar Bhat, Sanjay and Pushkar Nath Bhat.
