New Delhi, Feb 3 :
Opposition MPs created a ruckus raising slogans in the Lok Sabha on Monday over the Maha Kumbh stampede in Pragyaraj of Uttar Pradesh in which 30 people lost their lives.
As the day’s session started with Question hour in the Lower House, the opposition members targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded discussion on the January 29 tragedy and a list of the victims.
They shouted slogans like “Modi Yogi down down” and “Hosh mein aao, hosh mein aao” (come to your senses, come to your senses)However, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla scolded the opposition members and said, “Voters haven’t sent them to break tables but to ask questions”.
He also asked the Opposition MPs not to waste the taxpayers’ money, and maintain decorum in the house.In a brief intervention, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the Business Advisory Committee would decide on the agenda for Parliament.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to introduce a Bill in the Lok Sabha today to upgrade the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) into a university.
The proposed institution, named Tribhuvan Sahkari University, will focus on providing technical and management education in the cooperative sector.
The Bill also seeks to grant the university “institution of national importance” status, recognising its key role in cooperative education and training across India.
