A function was held at MLA Inderwal’s residence here at Kishtwar to celebrate the 149th birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri. The function was organized by District Congress Committee Kishtwar and attended by senior leaders of PCC, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, District Congress Committee, Block Congress Committees and others.
Ghulam Mohammad Saroori Vice President JKPCC and MLA Inderwal presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering Mr. G M Saroori recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to the struggle for the achievement of freedom from the colonial yoke, his sustained campaign against social injustice, racism and suppression of the under-privileged sections and his unending pursuit for establishment of a truly secular and harmonious society.
Saroori described Gandhi as an apostle of peace and a staunch believer of non-violence whose sacrifices and teachings are indelibly imprinted on the global conscience. They said at this juncture, the most befitting tribute to the Father of Nation would be to re-invigorate and strengthen the bonds of communal harmony, brotherhood, amity and secular ethos, which are the essence of Gandhian values and philosophy.
He also said that Mahatma Gandhi throughout his life worked for amity and brotherhood between all sections of the society and fought for the upliftment of weaker and under-developed sections. They said the best way of paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi will be that “all of us work for strengthening high principles of human dignity, secular traditions and brotherhood in the country”.
Saroori also remembered Former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and recalled his contribution to the nation and his commitment to Honesty, Integrity and simplicity, who realized the strength of this nation in the Gandhian philosophy and gave the slogan of “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”.
Prominent among those Mohd Aslam Malik, Mohinder Singh Parihar, Haji Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, Mohd Iqbal Keen, Abdul Wahid Lone, Javed Iqbal Tappal, Shahid Hussain Dar, Firdous Ahmed Mingnoo, Wassim Saroori, Waseem Maker, Randeep Bhandari, Sharvan Badyal, Kailash Chander and others remembered Mahatma Gandhi and described him as one of the tallest leader of the world who dethroned the mightiest rulers through his philosophy and weapon of Sataya Grah (Non-Violence). The entire world acknowledged Mahatma Gandhi as a leader of a great vision and learned lesson from his philosophy which shall remain relevant for all times to come.
They said that his philosophy and principles are becoming more and more relevant even today and India can remain united and stronger by following his philosophy and teachings they said there is no alternative to the basic principles of “unity in diversity” because of the pluralistic composition of our country. Those forces which are opposed to this fundamental philosophy are sowing the seeds of disunity and division of India and all right thinking people must unite and rise to the occasion to defeat the designs of communal and divisive forces.
