The ongoing verbal duel between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit a new low on Monday with the former asking Modi to “crawl and beg apology before the public” in Cooch Behar for allegedly lying at an election rally.Speaking at an election rally at Cooch Behar’s Ras Mela Ground, where Modi addressed an election meeting on Sunday and accused Mamata of not doing anything for the area when she was the Railway Minister, Mamata reeled out various projects that she claimed were taken up during her tenure to improve the railway infrastructure of Cooch Behar.“Let there be another meeting at this ground. It can be held even before the elections are over. If I am found to be lying (about the railway projects), then I will crawl on the ground before everyone and beg apology. Similarly, if Modi is found to be spreading falsehood, then he must crawl and beg apology before the crowd in the same fashion”, Mamata said.Gnashing her teeth in anger, Mamata said that from being a “chaiwala”, Modi had donned the new avatar of “chowkidar”. “What happened to your cup and kettle”? she asked. She said Modi, who visited Cooch Behar after a gap of five years, did nothing and only made sightseeing trips to various foreign countries during his tenure as Prime Minister.A visibly agitated Mamata was seen going up and down the dais exhorting people to shout the “chowkidar chor hai” rant with her. She said Modi was a liar too.Ridiculing the Prime Minister for promising people good administration, Mamata said Modi and Amit Shah were like “Duryodhana and Dushashana”, the two villainous brothers of the epic Mahabharata. The West Bengal Chief Minister also claimed that if Modi became Prime Minister a second time, then money kept in banks by ordinary people would not be safe. Modi would also intrude into people’s personal lives and monitor phone conversations and social media activities of ordinary people, she warned.
