JAMMU, MAY 31:
A group of 41 students including 16 girls of May Fair group of Schools Chand Nagar and Chinore, here left today for Moungri to participate in the J&K Himalayan Trekking Programme being organised by Tawi Trekkers J&K.
The group is being led by Deepika Dutta, a trained climber and Sourav Deep Singh, a senior member of the club. Three teachers of the school, Sakshi Thakur, Sakshi Sharma and Meenakshi Sharma also accompanied the group.
The group flagged off by Chairman of May Fair School, Vijay Kumar Basur in the presence of Secretary, Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee, Ram Khajuria; Director May Fair Group of Institutions, Abhey Basur; Shawetica Khajuria and Sonam Sidharth, general secretary and joint secretary respectively of Tawi Trekkers J&K. A large number of members of the club and parents of the participants gave them a warm send off at MA Stadium Jammu.
During the three-day programme in the serene Moungri area in Pancheri block, about 50 kms from Udhampur, the participants shall trek to the sacred Shiv Parvati cave and Gouri Mitti (7000ft). They shall also be imparted practical training in rock climbing, rappelling, jummaring and other adventure activities by experts in the field. They also learnt about the bio diversity of the area during their venture.
Students taking part in this Trekking Programme besides being explained the benefits of such venture in the personality development of a child shall also be taught to respect nature and environment and not create a clutter of left over in the jungles enroute.
