Jammu, Feb 28:
In a significant step towards promoting women’s health and well-being, Indian Army aligned with Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY), conducted a Medical Awareness Camp in a remote border village of Khour. This initiative was aimed at educating women about critical health concerns, including cervical, breast, and oral cancer, as well as menstrual hygiene and general wellness. The camp witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of women from the village and surrounding areas, eager to gain insights into health-related issues that often go undiagnosed due to lack of awareness and medical facilities. The event was conducted by Dr. Ritu Mishra, an AWWA functionary who addressed the gathering and shed light on the unique medical challenges faced by women in rural and border regions. During her address, Dr. Mishra emphasised upon the importance of early detection in combating cancers prevalent among women.
She elaborated on the symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures for cervical, breast, and oral cancers, encouraging women to undergo regular screenings and self-examinations. She also dispelled common myths and misconceptions surrounding these diseases, highlighting the significance of timely medical intervention. Another critical aspect of the session was menstrual hygiene management, a subject often considered taboo in rural communities. During the conduct of awareness camp, essential guidance on maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation, addressing societal stigmas, and ensuring young girls and women have access to safe and sanitary menstrual products were also provided. Beyond awareness, the Indian Army facilitated wellness check-ups, ensuring that the women received basic health screenings and consultations from medical professionals. Such initiatives not only empower rural women with knowledge but also strengthen the Indian Army’s commitment to community welfare, fostering trust and goodwill among the local population.
The villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army and AWWA for organising this much-needed initiative. The event’s success underscores the Army’s unwavering dedication to nation-building efforts beyond security, contributing significantly to healthcare awareness and accessibility in underserved areas. By bridging the gap between medical awareness and healthcare services, the Indian Army continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for communities living in remote and border regions.
