Meenal excel in World Chess, improves ranking

JAMMU, Sept 15:
Young chess player from J&K, Meenal Gupta has excelled in the World Junior Under-20 Girls Chess Championship at Gabze in Turkey by beating a higher rank opponent thereby improved her personal ranking to career best.
As per the reporting reaching here, after her stunning performance after the conclusion of first six rounds, especially the game against Kanakova Natalie of Czech Republic , she was invited for the live broadcast by International journalists.
With win against a higher rated player, Meenal has gained 102 rating points event thereby crossed the rating of all the senior men back home in J&K. Her live world chess federation rating stands at 2065.
For reaching the highest state rating, the All J&K Chess Association congratulated Meenal. Meanwhile, the Association handout issued here today informed that she had a very good medal winning chance till six rounds but lost in crucial seventh round game due to bad health.
Important to mention here that Meenal Gupta has already won two Commonwealth medals during 2016 and 2018. A State Awardee and student of Jodhamal Public School, Meenal has become first chess player of J&K to be eligible for special award by Sports Authority of India (MYAS).
