Mega inter-college sports festival Zone-1 begins

JAMMU, Feb 18:
The first sports festival 2020 of Zone-A involving degree colleges from Jammu and Samba districts across various sports disciplines got underway at different venues, here today.
The inaugural function for the 16 events sports mega event took place at GGM Science College ground, the venue for the Football. In total 21 teams comprising 2000 students are taking part in this sports festival.
The festival was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to Government Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella, who was chief guest. The Secretary, along with guest of honour, Director Colleges (Higher Education Department), Dr Yaseer Shah inspected the contingents.
The chief guest motivated the students by highlighting on the need to promote sports for the overall development of the personality of an individual.
He emphasised that physical fitness was important along with academic activities and the motto of the Sports Festival 2020 is to channelize the energy of the students in the right direction inculcating in them the leadership quantities and discipline.
The competition shall be held in the disciplines of Cricket (men and women), Football (men), Kho-Kho (men and women), Kabaddi (men and women), Badminton (men and women), Table Tennis (men and women), Volleyball (men and women), Hockey (men and women) and Tug of War (men and women) at different venues established within the city colleges of Jammu.
The Nodal Principal, Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo welcomed the chief guest and other distinguished gathering.
Meanwhile, in an exhibition cricket match, Director XI registered a 10 runs win against Secretary XI. The scheduled first football match won by Government MAM College beating Government Degree College Samba 4-0.
Vote of thanks presented by Dr. (Prof.), Koushal Smotra, Principal GGM Science College. Dr. Vikas Dhar (Deputy Secretary, Higher Education Department), Sanjay Sharma and Principals from other participating colleges attended the function.
Also present were Physical Directors, Dr. Vinod Bakshi (GGM Science College), Malik Aijaz (SPMR College of Commerce), Dr. Mandeep Singh (GCOE), Dr. Roopali Slathia (GCW Gandhi Nagar), Ramandeep (GDC, Ramban), Neelam (Assistant Physical Director MAM College) and. Pawan Giri (Assistant Physical Director GGM Science College).
Today’s football match officiated by the technical penal including Suresh Gupta, Rahul Sharma, Vijay Kumar and Abhishek under the supervision of football coach of JU, Gagan Kumar.
