JAMMU, JULY 01 : A day after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti blamed the orange jersey of the Indian Cricket team for the defeat against England, J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina lashed out on her saying that it is her love for Pakistan that is making her target India’s loss. He added that if she is blaming the ‘kesariya’ (orange) colour, she must also remember that ‘kesar’ is grown in Kashmir.
“Now that Pakistan is out of the World Cup so Mehbooba Mufti is unable to control her tears. She is expressing her pain through words. She has always used her politics to favour Pakistan, she has always spoken in
Mehbooba’s love for Pakistan…..
favour of separatists and now she has attempted to drag a sport to politics. But I will say any team that plays well, wins. This is her love for Pakistan that she is unable to bear that it is out of the CWC 2019 after England defeated India,” Raina said while speaking to media.
In a bizarre reply to the controversy that broke out due to Mehbooba Mufti’s tweet, Raina also added “And if she has problem with the ‘ kesariya’ (orange) colour then she must remember that Kesar is grown in Kashmir. She must then leave Kashmir as well. Kashmir’s land is a land of saffron.”
As Team India faced its first defeat in the Cricket World Cup 2019 on June 30 after England defeated India by 31 runs, Mufti took to Twitter and said that even if people call her superstitious she believes that the loss is a result of the orange jersey.
Here’s her tweet: Mehbooba Mufti wrote “Call me superstitious but I’d say it’s the jersey that ended India’s winning streak in the #ICCWorldCup2019”.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli officially presented the team’s away jersey in the front of the media for the first time on Saturday. Virat Kohli attended a press conference in Birmingham, the venue for the clash. After taking on questions from the media, Kohli posed with the new jersey, displaying the back side bearing ‘Virat 18’ and ‘One Day 4 Children’, a UNICEF initiative for children, which the ICC Cricket World Cup has tied up with.
After the completion of the photo-op, the star batsman quipped, “Aisa laga raha hai sukhane laya hu.” During the media interaction, Kohli had also said, “I quite like the kit. It fits well. I would rate the new jersey eight out of ten”.
“I think the orange blue kit is a nice and smart one. For one match its very good. I don’t think it is going to head in that direction because blue has always been our colour and we are proud to wear it”, he said during the press briefing ahead of India’s next game against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, referring to a controversy that has sprung over the significance of the jersey’s colour.
