New Delhi, Dec 28 :
After launching the C-Class facelift with a diesel engine earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz has now silently introduced the petrol version of the luxury sedan. It is only available in a single Progressive variant which is priced at Rs 43.46 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it a more affordable option than its respective diesel variant.
Only available in one variant – C 200 Progressive
1.5-litre turbo petrol motor puts out 184PS
The engine is coupled with a 48V electric starter motor for better efficiency
More affordable than diesel-powered C 220 d Progressive
The C 200 Progressive is powered by a 1.5-litre engine. Although that may look small on paper, it is turbocharged and offers a decent amount of grunt. With 184PS on tap, the petrol-powered C-Class is more powerful than the 150PS Audi A4 30 TFSI. However, it trails behind the BMW 330i M Sport and the Jaguar XE that boast of 252PS and 249PS, respectively.
Clearly, the C 200 isn’t looking to be the performance-oriented choice in the segment. But the Merc does come with a 48V electric starter motor paired to the engine to help improve fuel efficiency and pickup. In terms of features, the list is the same as the diesel-powered C 220 d Progressive variant. So it gets a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, active parking assist, LED High-performance headlamps, LED taillamps, 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel options and a 10.25-inch COMAND infotainment system
The C-Class petrol rivals the likes of the Audi A4 30 TFSI Premium which costs Rs 41.47 Lakh, the BMW 330i M Sport Shadow Edition which is priced at Rs 47.30 Lakh and the Jaguar XE 2.0-litre Petrol Pure which gets a price tag of Rs 39.73 Lakh. All prices ex-showroom.
