The website of the Ministry of Home Affairs appeared to be have been hacked on Sunday, prompting authorities to temporarily block it. The Ministry, however, denied that the website had come under an attack. It said the website was “down for repair.”
The MHA website was blocked by the National Informatics Centre. Computer emergency response teams are looking into the incident, an official said.
Last month, suspected Pakistan-affiliated operatives had hacked the official website of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) and defaced it with messages against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and of anti-India content.
More than 700 websites of various Central and State government departments have been hacked in the last four years. A total of 8,348 persons have been arrested for their involvement in cyber crimes, according to official data released this month.
