In its ongoing effort to sharpen the English language skills among the students,Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER organized an English Language Week at both its branches from 16th May to 22nd May.The week was packed with an array of activities that provided a platform to the students to showcase their skills through various ingenious activities using English as medium of expression.
The week was declared open by the school Principal,Mr. Pramod Srivastava and he wished good luck for all the activities scheduled for the week.On the first day Special Assembly on poets and eminent writers was organized.
The students of primary wing participated in storytelling and spell bee competition. It was aimed at creating awareness of the possibilities of using various words in oral and written expression and helped in adding words to the active vocabulary and familiarize the students with functional grammar. The best four students from each House were selected for the final round.
The students of Middle wing and Senior Wing showcased their oratory skills through debate competition on important topics like, “Is school uniform necessary”, Should school canteen sell fast food” etc while the Senior wing debated on “Success or Happiness: What is more Important”.Mrs.Rupa Gupta,Jt.Director MIER along with Mr. P.K. Srivastava, Principal,Mr. J.K. Dhiman,Vice Principal,Mrs.Chanda Mahajan, Manager Academics and language teachers attended the weeklong event.Mrs.Rupa Gupta in her address reminded the students about the importance of English Language. She said, “As we all live in a global environment where importance of English language cannot be denied, a consistent use of English will ensure students at their tender age inculcate the essential skills needed. She praised the efforts of the English Department and congratulated all the participants and winners.
Mr. P.K. Srivastava, Principal stressed that English as a Language should be developed at every stage and that it was paramount to converse in English.
Winners of various competitions were awarded with certificates of honour. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Manju Vali, Convener Co-Curricular committee along with Ms.Tanya Nagpal and Mrs.Sumera.
