Jammu and Kashmir BJP Vice President Rekha Mahajan, while celebrating the 6th anniversary of the historic abrogation of Article 370, stated that August 5, 2019, marked the dawn of a new era for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
She emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bold and historic decision has brought peace, progress, and prosperity to the region that had long suffered due to separatism and misgovernance.
Rekha Mahajan said that the abrogation of Article 370 was not merely a Constitutional change but a step towards integrating J&K fully with the rest of India.
“Today, every citizen of the Union Territory enjoys the same rights as those in any other part of the country,” she added.
Highlighting key developments, she said the region has witnessed rapid infrastructure growth, including new highways, tunnels, railways, and enhanced power connectivity. Investment has begun flowing in various sectors like tourism, education, health, and industry, creating fresh employment opportunities for local youth. Over Rs 50,000 crore worth of projects are either underway or completed.
She pointed out that grassroots democracy has been strengthened with the successful conduct of Panchayat and District Development Council (DDC) elections, empowering local governance. Schemes like PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and PM-Kisan have reached the last beneficiary without any discrimination.
Rekha Mahajan also noted a significant decline in terror-related incidents and the restoration of law and order. “The common people now feel more secure, and tourism has revived with record numbers,” she said.
