Mysterious Illness claims another life in Rajouri; Death toll rises to 14

A six-year-old girl has become the latest victim of a mysterious disease in Badhaal village of Rajouri district. So far, 14 people have reportedly died due to the disease, with four fatalities occurring in the past 48 hours alone, officials said. The latest victim, identified as Safina Kousar, daughter of Mohd Aslam, passed away at SMGS Hospital in Jammu. Her maternal uncle had also succumbed to the same disease on Monday at GMC Rajouri, the sources added.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, is personally monitoring the situation to ensure timely interventions and mitigation measures.
Authorities have initiated contact tracing and sampling efforts in the area. “Food and water samples have already been collected to assess the quality and safety of essential supplies in the region,” officials said.
Health Department team, led by Director Health Jammu Dr Rakesh Mangotra and Chief Medical Officer Rajouri Dr Manohar Rana, is stationed at Kandi Kotranka, the affected area, to oversee operations, the sources said.
Additionally, a mobile medical unit and ambulance have been placed on standby to address any urgent medical needs.
“The district administration remains committed to the safety and well-being of residents and urges the public to cooperate with health officials during the ongoing surveillance and intervention efforts,” read a statement issued by the administration on January 13.
The public is encouraged to report any health-related concerns to the district control room or local health authorities.
