Theatre Carnival-A National Theatre Festival concluded here this evening with the presentation of Natrang’s internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ written and directed by Padmashree Balwant Thakur. Organised by Natraj Natya Kunj Jammu, this first of its kind festival was supported by Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, Haryana Kala Parishad, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu. Mr. Simrandeep Singh, Chairman Services Selection Board was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Mr. Nishith Kumar Shil, Regional Passport Officer, Jammu was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The lead actors of the play who have performed record number of shows of this play repeatedly all over the country and abroad since last 18 years gave remarkable performances and audiences had the rarest occasion to witness country’s most accomplished actors on stage. Performance of Vikrant Sharma who is the first theatre actor of the sate of J&K having conferred this year’s Yuva Bismillah Khan Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting left the ultimate impact of his versatility and command over acting in his role as ‘Paani Laane Aala’.
The powerful acting of versatile Anil Tickoo demonstrated his control over the art of his matured acting. Amongst senior actors who gave powerful performances included Suresh Kumar, Neeraj Kant, Subash Jamwal, Sumeet Sharma and Rahul Singh. Gauri Thakur in her performance as ‘Dulhan’ was successful in justifying the challenging role. She was equally supported by Vanshika Gupta, Vrinda Sharma, Meenakshi Bhagat and Sanchita. Others who supported the play through their notable performances included Mahikshit Singh, Gautam Kumar, Bhisham Gupta, Shivam Singh, Abhi Bargotra, Shivam Sharma, Sanket Bhagat. The soulful music of the play was composed by Brij Mohan and Suraj Singh who also led the singing of the play and also gave an appreciable entry on stage as ‘Gujjar’. The lights of the play was designed and executed by Pankaj Sharma whereas the audiography of the play was designed and executed by Mohd. Yaseen.
