With the motive to promote and attract new talents in theatre Natraj Natya Kunj, Cultural Society Jammu (Regd.) is conducting a Production oriented Theatre workshop based on ‘Contemporary Practices in Theatre’ at their Studio. Supported by ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi’, workshop program includes an intensive practical training, lectures and discussions with the Theatre Director and teacher Abhishek Bharti who is also a recipient of National Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustaad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in Theatre Direction. The workshop is supervised by Kumar.A.’Bharti’ and is coordinated by Aaditya Bharti. Elaborating about the workshop Advisor of the group Rakesh Dogra said,”Each session in this unique workshop charts the critical and historical development of a mode of performance practice and assesses its contemporary significance. Designed to inspire students, scholars and practitioners, this workshop explores, what are the choices and responsibilities facing performance-makers today? Participants will practically explore the principal creative instrument, the key to form and style an atmosphere and emotional palette in contemporary performance, stepping beyond the limits of normative text-based acting.
While sharing his experiences with the student’s, workshop Director Abhishek Bharti said, “As an artist I work across theory and practice, moving between historical and written research and the production of visual artworks. Further he said the workshop is proceeded on the basis of a 3-step programme – the first was to arouse interest amongst all participants about the intricacies of the theatre experience – performance and transference; the second was to impart training in the area and the third was to help and guide them to prepare theatre production on the basis of the received training”.
Aaditya Bharti, alumni of Dept. Of India Theatre, Panjab University Chandigarh, is coordinating the workshop explains that the workshop program is focused on Actor’s training, relying on the Indian Theatre Tradition, as well as the newest experiments in performing arts. Performer’s physicality in the methods of Stanislavsky, Chekhov, Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, Grotovasky’s training by method of improvisation, scene composition from an exercise to a performance. We have uniquely transformed and combined these elements of modern theatre to suit the needs of contemporary performers.
President of the group Kumar.A.’Bharti’ thanked Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, for extending their support to organise this workshop which is open to performers from different backgrounds and creative genres. Workshop will offer a great opportunity to approach a unique methodological and practical knowledge that will enrich professional skills and offer possibility of sharing an intense creative experience at a global level.
