On the second day of the ongoing 10th Natrang Theatre Festival in connection with the celebrations of Natrang’s 35 glorious years, Natrang today presented a hilarious comedy play ‘Lottery Ka Ticket’ written by Showkat Thanvi and directed by Neeraj Kant, at Natrang Studio Theatre Jammu.
Natrang is organising a Theatre Festival of four plays every month since last eleven months in commemoration with the celebrations of 35 eventful years of Natrang. In his welcome address, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang has already created a record in the country by showcasing 40 major different plays by the same group in a period of eleven months. He complimented all actors, directors and technicians of Natrang associated with the holding of such historic Natrang Theatre Festivals. Natrang has not only provided the audience a chance to witness the different plays of highly social & artistic relevance but also has added to their creative and intellectual repository by staging the literary works of the most celebrated writers of the world.
The play revolves around the story of one ‘Munshi Ji’ who buys a lottery ticket and is consumed by the idea of winning it. He is over optimistic rather obsessed with the idea of winning the money. He plans how he would utilize the cash that he gets after winning the lottery. He also resigns from his job as he thinks that he is going to be rich and does not need a mundane job to feed his family anymore. His wife and brother on the other hand are apprehensive about all this. They try to warn him about his doings but seeing his enthusiasm they are also pulled in the fantasy Munshi Ji is living in. The play gives a relative picture of a middle class family that hopes and relies on the concept of ‘Easy money’ and the idea of becoming rich overnight.
These hopes are scattered when the true reality bites in. The play also tells us about the harrowing distress that lack of money or material wealth can have on a family. The play ends with a hilarious note when Munshi Ji’s sister-in-law dies but he is still obsessed with the idea of getting the lottery.
The artists who participated in the play included Manoj Kumar Lalotra, Sushant Singh Charak, Vanshika Gupta and Udit Sagar. The lights of the play were executed by Ajay Kumar Lalotra and music was scored by Aarti Devi. The presentation was done by Deepali Sharma and the show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
On the third day of 10th Natrang Theatre Festival, Hindi play ‘Daftar Mei Ek Din’ will be presented on Saturday, 30th of March, 2019 under the direction of Neeraj Kant.
