New Delhi : With the security forces on high alert to prevent any untoward incident in the wake of abrogation of Article 370 giving special status to Jammu & Kashmir earlier this week, the Navy is also on its guard to thwart any terrorist attack through the sea route like the Mumbai incident in 2008. Security has been strengthened around all naval bases and situation is constantly monitored on the western and eastern coasts.The coastal radar chain bolstered after the 2008 Mumbai attack is constantly watching the sea routes and giving real time picture to the Information Management and Analysis Centre(IMAC) in Gurugram.There are 46 radar stations and they are looking for any suspicious craft along the 7,000 km coastline spread over nine States.The naval warships and Coast Guard has intensified patrolling and their effort is supported by helicopters and aircraft, sources said here on Friday. The security agencies are also paying special attention to off-shore oil rigs and other strategic locations which are likely targets of terrorists, they said. All the stake holders in ensuring maritime security including coastal police of various states are also on guard and officials have also sensitised local fishermen about informing the authorities if any suspicious vessel is spotted, officials said.
